Preserving precious artifacts

The great staircase continues
to greet visitors from
around the world.
Repair and restoration work on the Museum at Corinthian Hall was begun in 2005. The first phase encompassed roof repair and masonry work on the palatial 1910 mansion. The second phase of restoration will replace all exterior windows and doors on the residence and the Carriage House. Lead and asbestos will be abated at this time, as well. The third phase will address HVAC installation for museum-quality climate controls.

Museum exhibits and artifacts will be relocated to protective storage during this construction phase. Newly designed exhibits and rotating presentations of artifacts will return to Corinthian Hall when rehabilitation and restoration are complete.

About the Friends of Kansas City Museum

Our organization is dedicated to preserving and promoting Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall as a world-class museum with inspiring exhibits that celebrate Kansas City's rich history in the heart of America. The Friends of Kansas City Museum is a private, independently incorporated organization (501c3) that supports Kansas City Museum projects and programs.

The museum is operated by Union Station Kansas City, Inc inside the city-owned Corinthian Hall, an historic mansion built in 1910 as the home of R.A. Long, a lumber baron, entrepreneur, and civic proponent. The estate was given to the Museum by the Long family, and Corinthian Hall has housed a museum of history and science since 1940.
