First Sunday Family Fun Day Aug. 3

Join us for the introduction of a new paper doll book depicting Loula Long Combs’ life and fashions

One hundred years after Loula Long Combs commissioned a portrait doll of herself, the Kansas City Museum is introducing a paper doll book about Loula which was developed by the woman who purchased the original doll, then donated it to the Museum.

The Museum will introduce "Loula Long Combs: Fashion Paper Doll Collection" at our free First Sunday event on Aug. 3, from noon to 4 p.m.  The original paper doll book, illustrated by Johanna Gast Anderton, features a dozen illustrations of actual historic clothing and period photographs in the Museum collections.

The book also includes portraits of some of Loula’s pets, like Jocko the monkey and Mary the piglet.

At the Aug. 3 event, visitors will be able to meet Ms. Gast Anderton in person. The book will be available for $15.95 in the Museum Visitor Center Gift Shop. Mention you saw this page and get 10% off the purchase price of the book!
