Kansas City Museum has retained RhodesWorks, Ltd., of Champaign, IL to develop an Interpretative Plan for the renovated Museum. The plan will inform gallery and interior finishes at the site, following completion of current HVAC and mechanical upgrades.
An Interpretative Plan is an interdisciplinary guide to integrated, site-wide, public programming goals. The Kansas City Museum Interpretative Plan will comprise a building-by-building site-use projection of visitor experiences and the environments where they take place.
The ongoing process has included area educators and elected officials as well as professional volunteers from area museums and representatives of the neighborhood associations bordering the Museum estate. Work began in April 2010, and a completed plan is expected to be delivered in September 2010.

The Friends of Kansas City Museum have also played an important role in the Interpretative Planning. The Friends' group has generously funded part of the plan, and Friends' Board President Katrina Waldrop Henke has participated in days of the planning sessions.
"The Friends and their president have a deep commitment to reviving a well-rounded, professionally managed facility," says Christopher Leitch, historic house director of the Kansas City Museum. "We're grateful for the Friends' support in this process."
