Friends of Kansas City Museum and the Kansas City Museum are saddened by the loss of board member Dr. Bruce Rahtjen of Kansas City in June 2010. Dr. Rahtjen was a respected civic leader and great friend to the Kansas City Museum and our Northeast Kansas City neighborhood.
Dr. Rahtjen's service to the community was remarkable. In addition to his service on the Friends of Kansas City Museum board, he was landmark commissioner for 12 years, board member and former president of Kansas City Foundation, active in the saving of the President Hotel, worked on the Liberty Memorial and World War I Museum, and served as president of Coleman Highland and Scarritt Renaissance Historic Neighborhoods. He and his wife, JoAnn, restored 11 historic homes in the northeast neighborhood.
The Museum salutes Dr. Rahtjen and his family for their commitment to the cultural life of our city, and carries his enthusiastic spirit forward in our ongoing work.
