Preservation Workshops

Kansas City Museum presents Preservation Workshops throughout the year. Each 60-minute workshop includes expert demonstrations from museum and historic artifact experts, handouts and suppliers lists for necessary materials. Workshops are held at the StoryTarium on the estate site and cost $10 each, $8 for members. Space is limited. Advance registration required.

The Community Curator program of Kansas City Museum invites historians and history educators to share their perspectives on artifacts they choose from the Museum collection. This provides fresh insight about artifacts and collections of Kansas City Museum and Union Station, and welcomes diverse input from the Kansas City history community. Community Curator lectures are presented the third Sunday of each month in Collections Storage at Union Station Kansas City, allowing the actual artifact to be presented with the observations of our Community Curator.

The Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall offers its 2010 Community Curator Lecture Series on the fourth Tuesday of every month, at 6 p.m., at Union Station Kansas City.

Museum Kids Summer Workshop

This summer, travel the world without leaving Kansas City. Explore thriving cultures and amazing countries from six continents. Play games, create arts and crafts and taste delightful treats -- and it’s family-budget friendly! Produced in collaboration with the Kansas City Ethnic Enrichment Commission.

The Friends of the Kansas City Museum commissioned famed puppeteer Paul Mesner to create a fantastic show for the enjoyment of parents and children alike. “The Long Story of Corinthian Hall” by The Paul Mesner Puppets has already been performed 20 times to some great Kansas City audiences, which has been generously supported by the Francis Family Foundation.

Ongoing Activities at the Museum

The Long Family and Corinthian Hall

The story of the Long family and their historic home, Corinthian Hall, is told in this informative exhibit, displayed on the grounds of the Museum. The free exhibit consists of eight panels detailing the Long family’s involvement in historic Northeast Kansas City, and includes photos of the estate, historic postcards of Kansas City, and a narrative developed by the Museum’s Curator of Education. A walking tour of the panels and the grounds is available free of charge. Call the Museum for details at 816-483-8300.

StoryTarium Shows
The StoryTarium is the newest attraction at the Kansas City Museum, where visitors can learn about Kansas City’s rich local and regional history. The StoryTarium features films, lectures and other history-related programming in an intimate auditorium that seats 50 people. It is housed in the Museum’s former planetarium. The regular programming schedule in the revamped space will feature a variety of original programs that first aired on KCPT, Channel 19. New original programming produced by the Museum will debut later this year.
